Iryna Ostrovska

About me

My debut in film was with “My thoughts are silent”, where I played a woman broken and utterly demotivated by life. I was fattened, aged, and my visage blemished. For this role I was nominated for the Ukrainian Film Academy Awards Golden Dziga for Best Supporting Actress. When I saw myself in the mirror on set, it dawned upon me why I was in this profession at all: To be able to live through the lives of other people. They are often controversial and not at all like myself, but evermore fascinating to understand and portray.
This is why despite my degree in economics I decided to pursue my passion and attend acting school.  However due to family reasons and having to move countries, my dreams were put on hold. Upon returning to Ukraine in 2015, I returned to my calling and continued to act. My roles explore the vastly different lives of many women, characters ranging from broken and defeated to strong and invincible.
My last character Victoria is the epitome of my characters, seeming unshakeable from the outside, yet is so tender on the inside. She is the main character of my last film “The Glass House”, whom I had the chance to represent at the Cannes Film Festival “Black Night Goes to Cannes” under the Work in Progress category.
